The Bob Moyer Big Band to bring swing music tunes
to the Cultural Centre on June 9

The Bob Moyer Big Band will perform on Saturday, June 9, 2012, at 7:30 p.m. in the Mae Wilson Theatre at the Moose Jaw Cultural Centre.
The 16-member band from Regina is comprised of five saxophones, three trumpets, three trombones, a piano, bass guitar, drums, a maracas player and a vocalist.
The band will perform tunes from the swing music and big-band jazz era, as well as compositions by Bob Moyer for whom the band is named.
The band was founded in 1951 as the Hobby Band, but was renamed the Bob Moyer Big Band in 1986 in honour of long-time director Moyer, who passed away in 2005.
Moyer, a tenor saxophone player who made Regina his home base for most of his professional life, was a writer, performer and producer of many stage, radio and television shows. During his career, he accompanied such stars as Bob Hope, Rosemary Clooney, Rich Little, Red Skelton and Mart Kenney.
Today the band performs around Saskatchewan, including several appearances at the SaskTel Saskatchewan Jazz Festival in Saskatoon. Brent Ghiglione, a University of Regina professor and former Moose Jaw resident, has directed the band for six years.

Tickets for The Bob Moyer Big Band on June 9 are $22 (includes taxes and charges) at the Cultural Centre box office or online at http://www.moosejawculture.com/events.htm (there is an extra charge for ordering tickets online.)
